    Trouble using =SUMIF

    On my work we have worksheets that are linked togheter and alle employees put an X in one cell each day they are present at work. Now I would like to make aformula that will show everyone how much over/below budget thay are regarding their sales.

    IE:
    A2 => A31 are all possible days to come in to work in june, and the salepeople will mark with x when they have been in. In Cells A1:A31 there is value 1. Cells C1:C31 they will put an x each day present at work.

    Re: How can sum cells that uses x for showing present days @work?

    Thanks for taking the time to read and comply with the rule .

    Have a look at SUMIF or COUNTIF in Excel help files...

    e.g. = SUMIF(A1:A100,"x",B1:B100) will sum values in B1:B100 where A1:A100 may have an "x".

    or =COUNTIF(A1:A100,"x") will count the number of "x" in A1:A100... then you can multiply that result by a "budget" number.

    If this does not suit your needs or you have further questions, please post a sample workbook depicting your requirements.

    Thx a lot.

    In the workbook cell A1 to A31 is hidden but each A cell holds value 1. Cell C1 to C31 is marked with an x where the employees have been in for work.
    What I need is to sum cell A1:A31 but only where there is an x in a related C cell. I tried your formula but get an error and I can not figure out why.

    This is what I tried: = SUMIF(C1:C31,"x",A1:A31) and also I turned it around: = SUMIF(A1:A31,"x",C1:C31) but I get error. What is wrong here?

    Re: Trouble using =SUMIF

    based on your region (Scandinavia) try changing the comma to semi colon

    =SUMIF(C1:C31;"x";A1:A31)

    That said if A always holds 1 you could actually use COUNTIF

    =COUNTIF(C1:C31;"x")

    Got a helping hand @office :-) he is excel guru.
    We had a hidden column in the workbook column D that was empty so this was a workaround.

    I belive this says: If cell C13 holds nothing give value 0 otherwise give value of 1. So I gave this formula to all cells from D1:D31 and it sums up all in D32, and that did what I needed.

    But for learning excel better I will still try to get SUMIF to work.

    Re: Trouble using =SUMIF

    You don't need to use any helpers... just use the COUNTIF as advised.

    @DonkeyOte

    You are totally right. It was all in the regioonal settings. =SUMIF works great now that I changed commas with semi-colon. Thx.
