    Thumbs up Filling in Formulas

    Hi all,
I've been an avid excel user for years, and I am totally stumped!
I am trying to simply fill in formulas, for example:
    cell C1 =A1+B1

    everything calculates fine
I use the fill handle to drag the formula down the rest of my column, in the cells, the formulas all change appropriately =A2+B2, but it keeps filling in the value from C1, the entire column!!!!

    argh!!

    PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, it would be better if you post a workbook then we can see for ourselves how we can help?

I know exactly what you are talking about, and it has happened to me, too. I finally figured out what it was. Go to the Tools menu, and choose "Options", then go to the "Calculation" tab. Make sure that the check box is chosen for "Automatic" rather than "Manual". And you should be good.
Even if it is on manual, you can press F9 at any time to have it update the formulas.

Thank YOU Kelly!!! This has been driving me nuts all day! Fixed it perfectly. Now to just figure out how settings like that get changed without my doing!

oh glad to help! I have been told that when you are working from any excel spreadsheet (or even a word document actually), the settings from the original author will be set to their preferences.

Thanks Kellyfspringer, Also for Excel 2013 users, you can go to Formulas tab, then go to Calculation Options and Choose Automatic rather than Manual.
