how to count text and produce bar graph from results

I have a dumb question. I'm trying to do something in excel that seems like it should be easy (and maybe it is), but I can't quite figure out how to do it.

here is a sample of my dataset:

Representative ----------- Party
Fred G. Aandahl ---------- Republican
Watkins Moorman Abbitt -- Democratic
Amos Abbott ------------- Whig
Jo Abbott ---------------- Democratic
Joel Abbott -------------- Democratic-Republican
Josiah Gardner Abbott ---- Democratic
Nehemiah Abbott --------- Republican
James Abdnor ------------ Republican
Pete Abele --------------- Republican


All I want to do is create a bar graph in which:

parties are displayed across the x-axis (ie Democratic, Democratic-Republican, Republican, Whig)
and
values corresponding to the number of people in each party are represented along the y-axis. (in this case 4 instances of Republican, 3 Democratic, 1 Democratic-Republican, and 1 Whig)


it can't be that complicated... i just don't know how to do it..
