Go at ad4 cell and paint it in red.

Then conditional formating -> New rule -> cell value equal to 30 -> choose green color

    Use Conditional Formatting....

    Go to Format|Conditional Formatting

Cell Value is >> Equal to >> =30

Click format and choose green from Font tab...

    click Ok

    Click Add

Cell Value is >> Not Equal to >> =30

Click Format and choose red from Font tab.

    Click Ok

    Click Ok to finish

You can select a range of cells and apply conditional formatting to all at once...

or you can copy one cell that has it applied and then select the range to copy to.. go to Edit|Paste Special and select Formats.

Re: text colour change depending on outcome of formula

this is what i am trying to do...

    Hours Contract
    25 25
    30 30
    15 15
    etc...
If hours match contract then i want hours to show green, if they do not match i want hours to show red, i have managed this using conditional formatting however it seems i can only do one line at a time which will take too long for 156 lines!!

    thanks

As mentioned copy the first instance that you applied the formatting to... then select the rest of the range, go to Edit, select Paste Special and select Formats... click Ok.. then formats should be applied...

You have Mac2008.. there may be slight differences in location of the Edit|Paste Special... you will need to look around.

Are you sure you are selecting Formats in the Paste Special window before clicking OK... the Values radio button should be unselected....

Re: text colour change depending on outcome of formula

You had placed a $ infront of the row reference in your formula, essentially "freezing" that row reference... so it was always comparing the cells in AF to cell AG4 only...

    See attached...

Have a look here at Absolute/Relative referencing in Excel:

    http://www.cpearson.com/excel/relative.aspx

Here is another blurb on Conditional Formatting and mentions the importance of absolute/relative referencing...
