    Linked Excel charts in powerpoint

    Hi all,
I have a huge powerpoint file with dozens of linked excel tables and charts.

The problem is now that some of these linked excel objects move when i open the ppt-pres and other stay on their place. It's extremly annoying to replace some linked objects each time i open the file...

I already deleted these linked objects and recopied them again, but that did not solve the problem. the objects moved again!!

I couldn't find any articles about this problem so i really hope that anyone can help me to fix these objects!

    Thx in advance!

I'm not sure about your specific problem, as I can't replicate it, but I would recommend pasting graphs into Excel as pictures - your files will be considerably smaller and easier to manage and you gain a great deal more consistency in display at presentation.

Depending on the situation, consider flipping between PowerPoint and Excel and just keeping your charts in Excel. Ignore that it might "feel" wrong, Excel is much better than PowerPoint at dealing with graphs. The most useful time for this is when you want to flex pivot charts, I would always recommend flipping to Excel for pivots, it gives you so much flexibility if you're asked any questions.

Re: Linked Excel charts in powerpoint

I have had similar issues myself when linking objects from Excel into PPT. I have noticed, that if you move them, resize them, etc in the Excel workbook, then the location and size will also change when you are in PPT. This also goes for zooming in. So, if you zoom in Excel, even though you don't change the size of the actual images, they will appear larger when you update them in the presentation. I am not sure why that happens as you aren't actually changing the chart properties, but it is quite annoying.

While pasting them in as pictures will reduce the size of the workbook, I can understand why you would want it as a linked object. One presentation we had displayed stats for all of the analysts/consultants at my company, and there were easily over 100 of them, but they were dynamic in the workbook, so they updated quite easily, and I wanted to automate the process as much as possible.

However, I have not found a way around it, other than to make sure that I don't move the charts once I have inserted them as a link in PPT.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Re: Linked Excel charts in powerpoint

I can't just past the charts and tables into the PPT as pictures, because i need the flexibility of the charts. The input data changes regullarly and i need to update the PPT slides with each change in the input data.

I didn't know that moving and zooming in/out has an effect on the size of the linked objects in PPT.

So thank you very much for the answer, you're saving me a lot of time and nerves!
