sorting a column whilst protected

Hello all.

I am trying to use the sort asending button on a proctected sheet, but it wont allow it. I have checked the box when protecting the sheet to allow users to use sort, but it doesnt work, any ideas??

For all cells in which you want to allow data manipulation, I think you need to set the cell "locked" property to unlocked. Select the range of cells, right -click, choose Format Cells, pick the "Protection" tab in the dialog and make sure the check is cleared from the "locked" property.

or maybe another spin on this, can i lock a column from being edited, without locking/protecting the whole sheet?
