    I want to prevent anyone from copying my excel Workbook and distribute it.

    I have to distribute a attendance workbook in 3 departments. I fear that people in other departments can copy my workbook and formulas and use it as there own work. so, i want to prevent the workbook from copied and distributed.

    Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

    @Pepe : It takes you to a thread in which I posted yesterday where the OP was asking about UDFs, not protecting workbooks.



    Good morning Mithusaido

    What you want to do isn't possible : Excel isn't secure and can never be made so, especially if you're giving your workbook out and allowing others to access it.

    That said, there are some things you can do : make use of the Protect Sheet and Protect Workbook functionality; keep worksheets that don't need to be seen hidden (or even better very hidden) and also keep formulae hidden so that users can only see the results, not how they were calculated. Also, make sure you use a VBE password, as this will make it more awkward (but not impossible) for nosy users to reveal very hidden sheets.

    The above will help, but won't keep out the more determined user, but beyond that there is not a whole lot that you can do. You could use VBA but the user generally has to agree to allow it to run - there are sort of workarounds, but they're clunky and not that reliable.

    If that's not good enough, then don't use Excel for your project.

    As we all know that Xl's protection is worthless, I thought that using add-ins would be a better option, involving some work of course to transform everything to VBA.
    BTA, who am I to contradict our CIC ?
