Data Validation Dropdowns and Change Events

I would like to create a spreadsheet that will show information for 21 different locations. This will show information on a variety of research statistics. Therefore it will show a multiple ammount of graphs and tables. I would like to use the Data Vallidation List tool so when on of the 21 areas is selcted from the list it will show the information on the graphs and tables relating to that single area.

I have seen this method before on spreadsheets but unsure as to the correct name for it. If somebody could provide a link for a good tutorial / help site would be most helpful.
