Picking out the name and score of the highest scorer

    Hi guys,

    Very quick question :-

I have a column of names in column A and respective scores next to them in column B

I want to display the name AND scores for the top 3 people in this list, in another area of the sheet

I have tried using the Index command which pulls out the name, but i cant seem to get the score aswell...

    Many thanks

If top 3 names to go in say C2:C4 with socres in D2:D4 then

The above will cater for duplicity of scores

Re: Picking out the name and score of the highest scorer

Hi, I have tried the formula above...

the D column works fine, however i get a circular reference error in the C column and just get 0 when i drag down..

    A B C D

    jimmy 50 0 89
    anna 12 0 50
    gotty 4 0 12
    ollie 3 0 4
    pete 89 0 3

    any ideas mate?

Not my use of row 2 and not row 1 for the first formula, this is requirement given use of ISNA test (the circular would imply you've used row 1)... if struggling please post a file.

Apologies for delay - was on a call - see attached (note point: re starting results in row 2)

If you avoid use of header row you will need to revert to an Array to handle possibility of duplicate scores or utilise helper cells.

Re: Picking out the name and score of the highest scorer

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but when I try this formula, there seams to be a problem with multiple people scoring the same score. It lists only the first name the formula finds for that particular score...is there anyway to fix this.

    Thanks.

    Leigh.

Leigh - if you have a question please raise in your own thread - refer to this thread in the narrative as nec.

FWIW all of the suggestions are designed explicitly with the intention of handling duplicity of score - if you're unable to implement successfully in your own file please attach a sample file to your own thread illustrating as such.
