Layered Conditional Formatting

Hi all,

OK, all I need is for all BLANK cells in table A1:K17 to turn grey whenever an instance of the term "yes" obtains in any cell THEREIN.

Select A1:K17 with A1 active, CF Formula is =AND(ISBLANK(A1), OR($A$1:$K$17="yes"))

Didn't work... OK, let's just say I need cells A1:B4 to turn grey IF they are EMPTY and WHEN a cell within this range happens to contain the value "yes" (I don't want the "yes" cell or any other non-empty cell to turn grey when this condition obtains, just the empty cells).
