    CHItest

    I am using Excel 2007

How I can use Chitest in Excel 2007 to test association of one variable with the other. For example:

    Contracted disease Not contracted disease
    Treated 40 60 100
    Not treated 80 20 100
    Total 120 80 200

How do I test to see if treated cases and not- contracted disease are associated?

    Re: CHItest

    Hi,

    =CHITEST(data1,data2) where data1 and data2 don't include totals.

The returned test statistic approaches 1 as the data sets become less independent.

But the instructions say that actual and expected score should be given; do mean to say that the expected score is data 2?

Yes, that's correct - I'm unsure as to why excel's help describes it as expected score.

The chi-square test helps you determine if two discrete variables are associated:

If two variables are associated, the distribution of observations for one variable differs depending on the category of the second variable.

If two variables are independent, the distribution of observations for one variable is similar for all categories of the second variable.
