How do I look at 3 cells & add together the highest & lowest value?

    Hi,

Could any of you Excel bods please help me find the correct formula to enter in order to calculate the following reasonably simple sum:

    3 cells with numbers, say, 1, 3 & 7.

I simply need to get my worksheet to look at all three cells and then calculate the result of adding the biggest and smallest number together. i.e. 8 in the example given.

    Thanks.

Re: Help with a simple formula

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

    arthurbr...

it seems the OP changed the title on post #3 and not on the original post....

... but the OP has also duplicated the thread....

Re: How do I look at 3 cells & add together the highest & lowest value?

Sorry about all the confusion and rule breaking. I am in other unrelated forums and the rules are slightly more 'malleable'. I will try to take the time to read yours more thoroughly.

That said, my problem has been resolved by two posters so thank you. I have added to both of their reputations.

Now....how do I show this thread as 'solved'?

The problem's solved now, but here is another possibility for the melting pot...

Note, I'm not sure if the Median function is available in 2003 & earlier. Also the same principle that ChemistB suggests for non-contiguous cells can be used on this formula.
