    capital letter

    i'm trying to write a lookup function that tells the difference between a capital letter and small letters.
    column A column B
    T 1
    t 2

    when i write the lookup function excell returns a 2 for the Capital T. seems simple but cannot figure it out

    got it thank you. here is what i'm trying to do. i'm a horserace handicapper. column A has T(main turf) and t (inner turf) column B has the track(BEL,AQU,etc.) i'm trying to write a lookup function that will look in column A( T or t) and then look in column B(BEL,AQU) so i can use it for my changes for the different times(my lookup list with all the tracks) i hope i explained it well

    i typed the formula exactly as the help box said using the exact vlookup and it still returned a 2 please help

    Most Excel functions don't distinguish between upper and lower case, but there are workarounds. Can you post a small workbook that shows what you're trying to do?

    thank you for responding, i don't know how to post a workbook , i will just have to manually change the t for another letter so i can write a lookup function for the changes

    Using your first example where you have a table A1:B2 of:

    Then if C1 contains criteria value T/t and D1 is to return value from Column B:

    assumes that each value in A is unique.
