    Smile Establishing Duplicates & New

    Hi There

I've been given the task of finding out if we have duplicated email addresses and i've been advised (helpfully) that i can do this using VLOOKUP. Not so helpfully - i don't know now how.

    Essentially i have 1 workbook 2 sheets

    Sheet 1=Current
    Sheet 2=New.

I need to know if any of the email addresses in Sheet 2 (New) are also in Current. But more importantly i need it to flag the ones that don't already appear in Sheet 1 (Current). I understand this is meant to come up as #N/A

Email addresses in both sheets are displayed in Column1.

On Sheet 1 (Current) i have placed a Y in Column 3 for all email addresses.

Can someone help me with the following:
    • What formula should i be using?
    • where should i be inputting said formula.
    • Does the formula run the whole way down the table or do i need to copy it down the rows?

    Very many thanks in advance!

    Re: VLOOKUP HELP! needed

    Hi,

You can use VLOOKUP(), my preference is usually for =MATCH() since this also tells you the relevant row in the comparison sheet. It will return #N/A if a match isn't found.

If the data on sheet 2 is in say columns A:M use say column N and in N1 put the following. and copy down all rows.
