    Auto Update excel

    Hi there. I doubt this is the correct section to post and if not could you please redirect me to the correct location.

    I was wondering if it was possible to create a macro / program that would update (run excel macros) every day whether or not the excel document would be opened? I have an ASC file that gets updated regularly and I would need my workbook to grab information from this file and input it into itself.

    hi,

    AFAIK, Excel must be open for event driven/any macros to run. You may need to look into using Windows' Task Scheduler to open Excel (& the file) for you, then have the macros run from Workbook Open code.

    Rob's got it right. Just set the workbook to run in Task Scheduler.

    I have no knowledge of how this might even be done. Would you let me know as to where I should ask how to get a step by step instruction on how this would be done or at least a general guideline?

    Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Task > Add Scheduled Task, browse to the workbook, set the time and recurrence.
