Hello,
Some Excel 2003 files “locked for editing…….” They would only open for a few minutes after a reboot. Found no posts of help, so I thought I’d post this and save someone 2 days of character building.
I tried the recommend solutions - clearing Temp files; saving under a different name, changing My Computer >Preferences>Change Preferences to “No, Do not enable indexing service”.
Then I found Unlocker Assistant: (http://www.jwrmedia.com/reviews/soft...removable.html)
(http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/). This will identify what is locking your file. (this is shareware… if you use it send a donation.)
Unlocker identifies the perpetrating files, and allows you to remove them.
But in my case they reappeared.
So I used Msft’s Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx) to identify that Google Desktop was parenting the remaining perpetrator (rundll.exe). Seems that after working well for 3 years, G Desktop began locking some files after indexing.
I uninstalled Google Desktop and all is well.
