Creating conditional drop down boxes and then searching for selections

I'm working with a workbook that contains information on motors. There are about 8 tabs for each different kind of motor. Now within each of these tabs, you have a list of options such as RPM, torque, encoder, brakes etc. We use these to find a certain number that is then multiplied to get the price of the motor you are looking for. What I would like to do is to create a sheet that would be a series of drop down menus that you would choose options from to easily search all this data, and once the last option is chosen it would multiply the number it finds and pop out a number. Now the first roadblock is I need these searches to be contingent upon one another, as in if you haven't chosen the first choice, you can't choose any of the other ones. I know how to make drop down menus but I've never tried to make them contingent on one another. I also have never tried to make a macro that would then search for a number and pull it up.

There are 5 prerequisite fields that they have to choose from before they get to the field that would pull the number that has to be multiplied. They are Type of Moter, RPM, Enclosure, Frame and FLA. After that there are a series of options in different columns that have the number to be multiplied. I have an example attached to this thread. I had to xx out some numbers for confidentiality reasons.

now again, each type has a different tab. So the first field would select the tab and go from there. It would be easy for me to add a column to each sheet and place the name of the tab in it to make it easier to search for. I really appreciate any help you can give me!

Re: Creating conditional drop down boxes and then searching for selections

I looked at this earlier and didn't entirely follow. Having looked again, the mist is being to ebb away.

I think it would be helpful if you could indicate in your file an example search and the output you would expect.

A userform, with a few dropdowns, may be a good way to proceed. Should the output go somewhere or just appear?

Anyway, in answer to your question, yes it is feasible.

EDIT: it would also be helpful if you could list the possible values of each of your parameters (Type of Moter, RPM, Enclosure, Frame and FLA).

I'm working on putting together the drop down menus as we speak. It's a bit daunting as I have to make a database just for the options that are available for each of the motors ( each of the tabs is a different type of motor.) Really what I need is a way for me to search for the selections that people choose. Once I put together the drop down menus together I will post them and have you take a look from there.

So I've run into the problem that I can't seem to get the drop down boxes to work. What I need is for each box to have the drop down be dependant on the type of motor. I've split each of the catagories up by motor type as you can see in the attached sheet. Any suggestions?

Re: Creating conditional drop down boxes and then searching for selections

I figured out the drop down boxes however the search is completely stumping me. Any chance you guys could figure it out. I have the drop down boxes on the first page and the other information is broken out in the seperate tabs. What it needs to do is look at the type of motor then go to that tab and search for the appropriate row. The problem is that while you could reference the first 5 rows it's the 6th that will be the problem.
