    pivot table layout

I think this is a simple query, I have a report and need to make a meaning pivot table of it for the powers that be.

I have all the info, but I am struggling to get the layout that i need. I want one row for each person and then column headings that show the data the pivot table has calculated. If anyone could look at the below 3 images and offer some advise that would be great. I've spent around an hour and half trying to get the layout I want but cant.

I have put 3 images here, one of the data table, one of my effort for the pivot, and the last one shows my ideal pivot table.

If anyone really wants to make my day, I have provided a link to the test excel spreadsheet (show in the pictures), that if you could complete I could try to reverse engineer it.

many thanks for anyone that can offer advise, this problem is killing me!

It would be better if you post the actual file next time - just click "Go Advanced" and upload it.

The answer to your query is very simple - all you need to do is click the data header and drag it to the right as I have done in the attached copy of your file.

    Re: pivot table layout query

folks, i believe I have the same problem as indieman but I have been unable to achieve the same result with the offered up suggestion. It might be that I have a new twist on this question. I would be grateful for an additional suggestion or two.

I have attached a test-layout.xlsx (yes an XL07 workbook). the file was originally created in XL03 and pivoted in XL03 (pivot table on the left). then I opened the file in XL07 and pivoted the same data (pivot table on the right). It doesn't appear that XL07 has comparable autoformat reports / tables that XL03 has. instead XL07 has PivotTable Styles under the Design tab - looks like an endless supply canned styles along with an ability to customize but i have been, so far, unsuccessful at removing the "Data" header that sits in the row immediately above the Sum of Qtr1, Qtr2 ... column headers with any sort of style change

my workaround to this is to keep an XL03 formatted pivot table handy that I can copy and repoint to the correct source data as required but this seems somewhat inelegant. there has to be something I'm simply missing.

I would be very grateful for any additional suggestions.
