    exporting in wrong cell format

I have a column with a custom format of 09252009 , and it displays that way. When I click on the cell though, the actual data shows as 9/25/2009 up at the top. So, when I am trying to export to a fixed length format, the field exports as 9/25/2009 instead of 09252009.

How can I make the format export like I want it in the custom formatting.

I tried searching forums, but, keep getting errors.

    Thanks for all help
    Matthew

Formatting does not change the number, just the way it appears. If you want to export 09252009 instead of 9/25/2009 then you will have to create a field that has that value as text, for example

    =TEXT(A1,"mmddyyy")

with the date being in A1
