Pivot table-Grouping of non-contiguous row fields

    Grand Total

In a pivot table, I want to group the respondents by their educational qualifications. If the group fields are not contiguous, I am not able to group them. In the first group, I am able to group the fields though they are not contiguous. But when 2nd and 3rd groups have to be made, dragging and grouping action is not accepted.

If you drag the fields into the required order first, they can be grouped - see attached file.

Thanks Huron. Sorry, I don't know how to drag on excel sheet? Dragging with what, from where to where?

With the mouse, left click on a cell then move the mouse to any edge of the cell until the pointer changes to 4 arrows. Press the left button and keep it pressed while you drag the cell to the new position.

Re: Pivot table-Grouping of non-contiguous row fields

    Sorry!
When I drag it and place it in another cells where there is already some value, it is asking if has to be replaced with new one. When I said yes, the old value is lost? I am left puzzled about where I can find the value that was lost, which has to find a place in one of the groups. Or you mean to say it should be taken to a empty cell but not a cell where some value exists?

Make the pivot table first, without any grouping, then drag each row field up or down to the position you want. The other fields will automatically move to make room. Another way of doing it is to right click a row field, select Move - then Move Up, Move Down, Move to Beginning or Move to End.
