Fiscal Quarter/Year into a date format

Is there a way to convert Fiscal Quarter/Year into a date format? The reason it’s needed is to keep sales information in date order when creating pivot tables and showing financial progress.

The sample sheet attached shows what I am trying to do. It’s easy to show month to month in the correct order by using MMM-YY format.

The correct order for quarters is NOT:
    Q1CY08 Q1CY09 Q2CY08 Q2CY09 Q3CY08 Q3CY09 Q4 CY07 Q4 CY09* Q4CY08
    It should be Q1CY08, Q2CY08, Q3CY08, etc…

Some options include numbering quarters (call it quarter order) and putting that above the Qtr/Year, but this gets ugly.

Also consider that you’re looking at 4,900 lines of data for 2 years. The actual data is 50,000+ lines for 4+ years.

If it can be done, I’d appreciate your input.

    Thank you much,

    Roger!

Data such as CY08Q1 would sort correctly - can that be derived from your source?
    eg =right(b2,4)&left(b2,2) would convert Q4CY07 to CY07Q4.

Unfortunatly no. I am using a vlookup to pull in correct quarter based on month and year of invoice date.
    Row Labels Qtrs
    Oct-07 Q4 CY07
    Nov-07 Q4 CY07
    Dec-07 Q4 CY07
    Jan-08 Q1CY08
    Feb-08 Q1CY08
    Mar-08 Q1CY08
    Apr-08 Q2CY08
    May-08 Q2CY08
    Jun-08 Q2CY08

I was hoping one of the geniuses here would know how to design a "Number format" from scratch. For instance, 39600 number format can be Jun-08, or 6/1/2008, or Sunday June 01 2008, or Sunday. I would need it formated as "Q2CY08".
