Combining IF, AREAS and a variable?

    Hello all,

I'm trying to accomplish the following:

I want my formula to check a row of cells and every time the value "option1" is detected, the output is increased by one.

    For instance like this:

    option1
    option2
    option2
    option1
    option3

This row is checked and the result of the formula is: 2 (the value "option1" is detected two times).

    Thanks in advance!

Okey, I just found the COUNTIF-function and have managed so far!

The next problem is how I can add several tabs to the area which is to be checked?
