comparing columns and conditional formatting icons

    Hi There,

I am trying to do the following which I think´many must have tried doing before.

I am trying to compare one column of data (revenue January) to another (revenue december). I would like to use the icon 3 arrows in color, to symbolize if revenue has gone up, down or stayed the same. Now I can make a rule for each cell, but that would take ages.

any suggestions on how to do this easily?

    Best Regards
    Ulrik

    Hej Ulrik, hvordan går det?

I've had this same problem, I never found a good way of solving it though. Your problem sounds simpler...

At least better than going through the rule settings one by one, you can just drag the cell down with the settings. If you have your revenues in columns A and B, and in C you take B-A you can set the 3-arrow conditional formatting for cell C1 and just drag it down.

    Hope that helps

Re: comparing columns and conditional formatting icons

Thanks for the advice. Let me be a little more specific.

I have 2 Pivot tables. Each is based on a database query from outside excel. I have made 2 pivot tables. One for each query (week). Inside each pivot table are 4 columns: Name, #Impressions, #Clicks, #revenue.

Now I want the column with revenue for week 3 to show the revenue number of course ANd additionally show a green arrow up, if the number is larger than week 2, yellow arrow if the number is equal and a red arrow down if it is lower than week 2.

Now my problem in a pivot table is that I cannot just drag down, as it will not dynamically replace values. Inside the rules configuration I can pick the 3 arrows, but only select one cell as rule and such as $A$1. If I remove the $, I get an error.

It must be possible to symbolize inside the pivot field if numbers has gone up or down.

Would it be easier if I uploaded an example .xlsx?

    Thanks again
    Ulrik

It normally helps to have an example file.
