I am not sure what you mean.. what are the criteria, what are the 3 words.. can you elaborate a bit?
Where there is a will there are many ways.

sure sorry about that...When you query and it returns apple...apple would be converted to A...Banana would be returned with B etc...
I think I got that, but not sure about what you are querying..
if it is the actual formula you got there, then:
=LEFT(VLOOKUP(A4,produce!$A$2:$F$233,2,FALSE))
on the worksheet "Store"..When I try to pull the information from the "produce" tab which is a generated report. I want to pull the information...but when I do...I want to strip all lettering except the first and be able to do that for all the other pulled information in the B column. In the first example...Cell B4 pulls Apple...which I want but I do not want "pple" just the letter A (Trim ??). I have a space requirement as my real workbook has many other pulled information that needs to be viewed on the monitor...
Does this help..
technically only those three words used in my example will be pulled from the report.
I know I could slide the cell over to squeeze it enough to only show the Letter A, B, C etc... but was wondering if a formula of some sorts could do the job...

Have you tried the formula above?
I did..and it came back saying true... I tried again and it worked... Thanks again
