Weekly growth forecast based on annual number

    Hi there,

I have an annual sales target where I want to calculate the linear growth needed on a weekly basis so that the total for the year = the sales target. I have week 1 as a starting point. From there I want to grow linearly to hit the annual goal.

    Example Annual Target 100,000

    Week 1 - 1,000 (known starting point)
    Week 2
    Week 3
    Week 4...

I have laid out the example in the attached spreadsheet. (submitted in excel 2003 format though I am on 2007)

Is there some kind of range formula I can use to calculate, based on the week 1 starting point and the annual goal, what the rest of the weeks would need to be growing linear, week over week? I have been trying to use TREND and other formulas, but those seem to based only on historical data and not this future annual goal.

I am a first time poster, so thanks in advance for any insight.

For weekly sales goals, use =B5*(1+RATE(51,-1000,-1000,100000)) in B6 and drag down.

Perfect, thanks! I kept looking at statistical/analytical functions and it was beginning to hurt my brain. I didn't think of the finance functions, but that makes sense now. Works like a charm. Thank you so much.
