    Fishing weights

    Hello all

I have been building a spreadsheet to calculate fishing weights.
These weights are measured in pounds, ounces and drams.
So far I have managed to build 80% of the spreadsheet, but just
need some guidance on the last little bit.

I have attached the sheet and as you can see I've managed to get as far as pounds and ounces now need help with the drams.

My input will look like 3.0805 with the result needing to looking like this 3LBS 08ozs 05d.

    Thank you in advance

    P.S I will hide the conversions in rows 7, 11, 14 ect

    16 ounces = 1 LB, 1 ounce = 16 drams

    Re: Fishing weights

why have you used the DOLLARDE function from the Analysis ToolPak add-in?

Your file will not be transferrable unless the reciever has and knows how to load it all they will get is #NAME? every time they enter a cell.

I'm not sure it achieves anything in your workbook. Can you give me an hour or so?
Or look back in the morning?

    Re: Fishing weights

As I suspected this gives a false weight for your catch, about a 4% increase...

I've seen and heard many a fishermans' tale, but this is the first one involving Excel..

Seriously. I'll sort it out. Look back tomorrow I'll have something early morning.

    Regards

    Re: Fishing weights

    Hi got held up,

I might have gone a bit OTT

This workbook will allow you to

1/. Enter catches in either imperial and metric

2/. Keep a running total for each member.

3/. Show the best catch for each venue by member

5/ Show a total catch for each venue and highlight the top venue

6/. Calculate the seasons total to date.

7/. Automatically add a new set of rows for a new member

As yet I haven't allowed for adding a new venue.

If you could let me know what you think, if it's what you want, I'll add this.

Haven't fully tested it yet so there will be bugs. If you find any keep a note of them and let me know

The file is in 2003 format and works in 2007 just remember to allow macros when you open it.

    Cheers
    Alistair

BLOODY HELL you are a super star this is looking absolutely superb.
Thank you so much for your hard work and expertise.

I will test this on last years results which was scrawled on a piece of card.
If I'm every up your way, I contact you and take you for a pint or two LOL

in the ounces window what is the required number format to enter drams

ie 4 ounces and 8 drams or 4ounce and 10 drams at the moment it's working at 1/10 drams instead of 1/16 drams

    Re: Fishing weights

    Calm down, fish can hear!

To answer your question about drams, something I have a perchant for..

In the ounces field just enter a decimal number.

For example if you enter 1.25 in the ounces box then "1/16" (read as, 1 ounce. i.e. 1/16th of 1lb)
    below will be " 0lb 1ozs 4d" - the "accurate" answer.

    1.33 will return "1/16" & " 0lb 1ozs 5d" etc

The running totals are accurate to +/- 0.9d (~2 grams)

I checked out "Salter" scales and I think my calcs should be close enough for all practical purposes, mind you I'm not an angler! (75' Seinne netter is my preferred method of catching fish.).

I'll fix some of the bugs, add the bits that are missing, do a bit of testing, then post the result

    Keep looking in

    Re: Fishing weights

This version is a bit better

I've added the ability to add a new venue without the calcs breaking down

I would be happy to fix any remaining bugs you might find.

    Tight lines

    Re: Fishing weights

Hello! I am trying to write a spreadsheet to calculate amounts of food by weight to feed my dog, cat, and kitten. What I can't figure out is how to have the weights show in pounds and ounces; and ideally how to enter them in pounds and ounces.

I looked at Marcol's final version of the fishing spreadsheet but the formulas wouldn't display. Can you tell me how to see them?

    Thanks!
