Frustratingly slow Excel after pasting in from website table - V large file size

I'm working with a medium sized spreadsheet (about 10 sheets, a few thousand data points, a dozen charts etc), and after pasting in some data from a table on a website, the file size has ballooned from c3MB to 9MB to 27MB... and of course everything is running very slowly.

Is there a way to strip out whatever HTML goblins are causing this problem?

    thanks

I though I would add a comment as no one else has

a couple of things to try:
    - where you have pasted the data reset all the formating to a standard
    - Check the size of the pages Sheet(1).usedrange.address to make sure nothing strange has been pasted. Get rid of extraneous rows or columns.
