    Excel files maintainability

    hello everybody

we have a server wherein thousands of excel files are stored,

when we get the order for quotation , we find the customer name file and edit it and then save it as a last number

some times by mistake we forget and save it to the old file, and the old data gets lost

i want a software which will help me either from above mistake or make my all edited files a read only once i close the excel sheet and then for any editing ask a password and then for saving ask anathor password

    is such a software avialable

    please suggest me

    Re: Excel files maintainability

When I want to do this, I place a save as statement in the workbook open event,

saveas "C:\temp\temp140.xls" (this isn't the whole syntax, depends on your version of excel.)

When the workbook opens it does the automatic save as a different filename, then rename and save as required. If you forget, the old file hasn't been touched, just reopen the tempfile and save again.
