    Is there anyway to make ' visible as the first character in a cell

    Hi,

    I'm working on a game and, in the text file, there are several character used to determine the color of the texts inside the application. Many of those start with ' and this character is not displayed since excel uses it to determine the format of the following text.

    To start a sentence with = as the first character and not be considered a formula you need to add ' as the first character and it will only appear as =.

    I have the text '[character name] but it only appears as [character name]. Is there any way to make excel read the ' without changing the text to ''[character name].

    Thanks in advance

    I'd suggest the same solution, but from the initial question this is already ruled out...

    well, there's not much more you can do. The ' sign is a special character, defining that the cell content is a string. You can omit it, if it's apparent that the content is a string. The first ' in a cell will always be interpreted as the string identifier. So, if the actual string starts with a ' you need another ' to precede it.

    Well, you could add another column and apply a formula which adds the extra ' to each cell.

    A1=original text
    B1=new text
