Changing the total with a filtered table

I have a table that has a list of names and then hours worked. I have a geand total at the bottom for the whole section. Is there a way to have a chnging total for the hours as I filter the table by name? For example, John Smith wotks in the section, when I filter the entire sections table to just show John Smith I would like the total to change to show just the hours he worked for the month. Thanks in advance for the help.

See the SUBTOTAL function, ie replace your existing SUM(range) with SUBTOTAL(9,range)
