    Question Progressive expenses

    Hi all,
I am working on a Spreadsheet that I would like to post income/expenses to a row and keep weekly, monthly and year to date cells. It seems to be a problem, I would like to keep a cell for posting the weekly expenses and total it in the monthly cell and also keep a total of year to date. I post the amount to the weekly cell and I can total in either the monthly or the ytd cell, but not both.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

For example: A5 is source. B5 is the weekly amount. C5 would the the monthly amount, and D5 would be the year to date .

    Hello merl4,

welcome to the forum. I'm not sure I understand your spreadsheet layout from your description. Typically, this kind of scenario would be handled by a data entry table, where you post each amount into a new row, with a date that corresponds to the amount.

Then use Sumifs or Sumproduct formulas to calculate the totals for the different time frames.

Or better yet, a pivot table.

If that does not help, please post a workbook.

    cheers

Thanks for the reply. I am at a loss. I'm working on a mileage chart. I have (22415 miles posted in (c5) and today I drove 60 miles. I want to add my 60 miles to the 22415, which seem to be no problem. That would be 22475 and the next day I drove another 50, my c5 cell would be 22475. How do I continue to add my daily drive mileage to a progressive total?

Look at using Dynamic Named Ranges then use the named range in the formula
    Hope that helps.

You can't just add a number to a cell to update another cell like that

Why not keep proper log? I could easily write code to do this, but it does seem pointless. With a proper log you would be able to check previous details
