    Reducing image file size

I am working with a spreadsheet the has 607 images cut and pasted into it. There are formulas within each sheet and formulas to link sheets together. For example: you put a 1 in B2 so K2=1*3.24. And then that also transfers to the next sheet in the workbook. The file is 59.6MB. I already reduced each image's size and compressed it. How do I reduce the images to bring down the file size? Thank you for help.

    Re: Reducing image file size

This strikes me as being in the category of "not an Excel question" but maybe I can help with a little more information.

How did you copy & paste the images? That is, what was the source of the images and what application did you use to do the "copy" part?

How did you reduce the size of the images?

How did you compress the images?

What sort of file size reduction did you gain by the actions you've already taken?

It also begs the question how big are the original images outside the sheet!

it should be noted that that bitmaps in excel may be stored uncompressed or minimally compressed rather than JPG size, converting your original file to BMP format would give you an idea of the size of each within the file!

I'll modify that after getting out my HEx Editor it apears that a JPG dragged onto the sheet will save as a JPG in the excel file, this may be your answer!

Rather than cut and paste, drag the file containing the image onto the sheet, if it is in JPG format it will take up less space than a cut and paste!

Thank you for your help. I know this sort of thing really should be in Access but, the people I work with don't have any experience with it, and I lack in it myself. So I put it into Excel. The images are JPEGs and PNG images, which I copy from the thumbnail or copy, paste into microsoft Picture manager to resize and compress. Then I copy / paste into the Word or straight in excel from there. And compress again. The largest of the files is 3,765 KB with dimensions of 3072 x 2304. These are images we use for our magazine or our web-site so they are large and high def. I'm going to try the drag idea.
Also how do you get emails to when someone answers you back here? Thank you again.

    Re: Reducing image file size

If you are starting with 600 images that are 3.8MB, and you get it down to 60MB, that's a huge amount of compression. If you need to make the file even smaller then you're going to have to reduce the resolution of the images.
