    Forecasting model

    Hi

I am building a forecasting model and I would like to take the trend in the previous six months into consideration together with my manual actions that I am building in. Is there a function in excel that I can use to forecast a specific trend in financial figures?

    Re: Forecasting model

As far as I know, the simplest form of forecasting would be to use the slope-command to compute the linear trend, and then apply this to future plots. More complex models can be buildt with the regression tool.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used any of those before, but at least now I can google in the right direction.

    Re: Forecasting model

    I am battling here.

Anyone willing to have a look?

The blue figures are actual figures and the green ones is the ones I want to forecast based on a trend over the previous 6 months of that specific month.

I did the Slope function, but are unsure how to use the outcome. I used the Forecast function on the first line, but it doesn't seem right and I can't use the same function for line 2.

    I would appreciate any advice

    Re: Forecasting model

your formula in cell N3 should be :

    =FORECAST(N$2,H3:M3,H$2:M$2)

Copy this to all forecast cells.

    hi

I think the mistake in your formula is that you were assuming row 4 as known x
but actually your known x should be row 3

Try using the following formula =FORECAST(N$2,B3:M3,B$2:M$2)
