Opening saved excel 97-2003 workbook (*.xls) in 2007 microsoft office

I use 2007 Microsoft Office but save in Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls). When I tried to open the file it fails to open. These all the information I got when I tried to open the saved files.

It reads: “‘C:\Document and Settings\Computer Administrator\My Documents\G.xls’ could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct”

    It continues:
“If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted”.

I need help to open my saved files.

How are you trying to open the file?

    A. From Windows Explorer you see your file in a list of files under a folder, and double-click on it
    B. From Excel, you are going to the Open File dialog, navigating to the folder, and clicking on the file
    C. Other

Is G.xls the correct name of the file? That is, does the error message show the name of the file that you are actually trying to open?

Does this happen with just one file, or more?

Did you make any changes in your system settings before this started to happen, any changes at all? Can you do a Windows System restore back to the point where this started happening?
