    Chart X Axis label

I have a simple data set (attached) and created a bar chart of months and prices with a fixed line at the budget price as an indicator when over or under budget.

I cannot get the month labels to show on the X Axis? So I recreated the chart (seems easier) now I can't add a simple trendline am getting clustered bars.

Please explain how I change the clustered bars showing budget price to a horizontal line.

    2 things.

First use the Select Data dialog to reference the correct range for the axis labels.

Second you need to add the Primary X axis.
Chart Tools > Layout > Axes > Primary Horizontal Axis > Show Left to Right

Assuming you are using xl2007 as the file is a xlsx

Select chart, this will display the Chart Tools contextual tab.
On the Design tab is the Data group.
Use the Select Data button to display the Select data dialog.

Currently for the chart with no labels the reference for where to find datalabels is
    ='C:\DOCUME~1\FRANKS~1.000\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for averageline.zip\[AverageLine_Tutorial.xls]Step by step'!$A$2:$A$6

For the second chart you need to select the Budget series and use the
Chart Tools > Design > Type > Change Chart Type. And select Line chart.
