Excel 2010 filters not showing data labels

I am using Excel 2010 and have a problem with filters. When filters are applied the pull down menu evidently contains a list of unique values in the column, but the data value is not displayed, only the tick box. The "search" works, but still the values are not displayed. in the pull down list. Image attached. Surely a beta problem ?
