    VLookup Function Not Working

    Hi All,

I'm trying to use the VLOOKUP function to obtain a project date for a specific project. I am using the following formula:

    =VLOOKUP(G21,'ALL INCLUSIVE - PROJECT DETAILED.xlsx'!$B$2:$AC$1000,7,FALSE)

Where G21 is the project name, "ALL INCLUSIVE - PROJECT DETAILED.xlsx" is the title of the sheet for the table that contains the project name (B2: AC:1000), and the project date is in column 7.

However, I'm getting an "N/A" error - any ideas on what might be wrong within the sheet?

    Thanks!

It means there is no exact match to G21 in col B.

Thanks, but if I do a search on that item (ie: CTRL + F), it is located in the table (column B) - sorry that was not included in the above info... any other ideas?

Actually - I may have just found the answer - can you tell me if this is true:

I changed my table to have the project name referenced in Column A and the formula worked, so does that mean that your "lookup" value would always have to be the first column of a sheet?

No, it has to be in the first column of the lookup table. See Help for VLOOKUP.

Post a workbook if you're still having problems.
