    formula to extract a section of of a text string

    hello, I have a column of text strings that i need to extract a portion of. Can someone give me some reccomendations or pointers on how to accomplish what I am trying to do?

    This is the text string. I am trying to extract the section of text in red. The section will be different in every cell, but will be in the same position in the string b
    Y:\XXX\Dal\Department\Provisions\Quality Assurance\1-2010 PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS\xxxx PERISHABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS\Inactive\SPECS\FPxxxx.DOC

    Can you post more guidelines for finding the section you want?
    Is it always between the last two backslashes?
    Is it always after: "PERISHABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"?
    Something else?

    Sorry for not making that more clear. It will always be after "xxxx PERISHABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS\".

    With
    A1: containing your text

    and
    C1: containing the text to find (EDITED TO CORRECT THIS VALUE)
    ....eg xxxx PERISHABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS\

    These formulas return the text between the C1 text and the last backslash:

    In the above example, the formulas return: Inactive

    Is that something you can work with?

    You could try this unless someone comes up with something better

    It will always be after "xxxx PERISHABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS\".
    It's so much easier with some extra information......
