How do I construct multiple If conditions in a cell?

    Hi.

What I want the operator to do is input a value in a cell (let's say cell A1) and depending on what is entered by the operator the value of another cell (lets say A9) will vary.

So the operator is going to enter into cell A1 either A,B,C,D or E. If A is entered then I want the value of cell A9 to be 10. If B is entered then I want the value to be 20. If C is entered then I want the value to be 30. If D is entered I want the value to be 40. If D is entered I want the value to be 50.

    Basically what I want to say is If A1=A then A9=10. If A1=B then A9=20. If A1=C then A9=30. If A1=D then A9=40. If A1=E then A9=50.

What would be the correct syntax for this formula? And how would I prevent the operator from entering anything other than A,B,C,D or E?

If some one can answer this question it would be greatly appreciated.

Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.
To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

Also,do not request off site help, this is a free forum & all solutions should be on the Forum& available to all.Posting your email address in a public forum invites spam
