Comparing Parts of Cells / Vlookup

    Hello,

I am trying to compare two columns, columns a and column b, with results to show in column d.

In column a, basically anytime there is a match between the text preceeding the .com,.net,.info, a match with corresponding text in column B, then show the result from column A,

if data in column a is not found in column b, then show column a data

    see example.

i tried vlookup"*"&"*" but that worked some of the time, not all.

    thanks

    Hi Martin,

http://www.abc doesn't match anything in col b but you have result as http://www.abc.com

Right, so the commonalty is http://www.abc.com from column a, and col b has abc.com
, so in this case when theres a partial match before the .com, show result from column a.

what im trying to determine is the match from column a and column b anytime there is a close approximate match. hope that makes sense

youll need to strip off some of the extra info first with find/replace
even then its not that straight forward. you have to0 many variations
