Move one cells data into columns, is separated by , or -

    Hi there,
How do you separate a single cells contents into more than one cell if the data is separated by characters such as a comma or dash.
    For example:

    One cell
    4,6,14,78 into 4 6 14 78 (now in separate cells)
    3,56,67,87 into 3 56 67 87
    1,4,6,14,55 into 1 4 6 14 55
    12,14,67,76 into 12 14 67 76

    or
40-50 into 40 50 (now in separate cells)
    12-58 into 12 58
    10-128 into 10 128

    Many thanks
    Mike

Select cell or range -> Data -> Text to columns -> Delimited -> choose Comma (or enter sign in box i.e. - ) - Finnish

What happens when you get 2 numbers like 4 &112 which would be shown as 4,112 and excel thinks they're not separated by a comma but is the number 4112?

    Many thanks

assuming your range is in col a starting a1
    then in b1
    =TEXT(A1,"#,##0")
drag down to end of range in col a
then copy paste special values col b over col a
    delete or clear col b
now do your text to columns on col a
