    Question Complex Excel Organising

    Hello everyone,

I am new to excel completely and have just started a new job. I have been given an excel workbook and asked to organise it. The document looks like this (roughly):

Driver ¦ Date From ¦ Date To ¦ Time driving for ¦ Time rest for ¦

    Dave 15/10/10 17/10/10 07:15 02:05
    Mark 13/09/09 16/09/09 05:00 00:45

This is only sheet 1 i.e. CAR 1
There is 12 sheets all diffrent vehicles.

I have been told to organise it so I can search and display an Individuals work load i.e.:

    Dave (CAR1) 15/10/10 17/10/10 07:15 02:05
    Dave (Lorry 1) 14/10/09 16/10/09 08:10 05:12

    Is this possible?? Help please

Yeah, copy and paste all the information into one table, then apply a filter to the driver column (data-filter-autofilter) to see that driver's workload

Charlie is right for the end sheet. Use of the AutoFilter would be the best way to read the data after it's all merged.

Meanwhile, I have a macro that may be "almost ready to use" for merging data from multiple sheets into a "consolidation" sheet.Run that macro on your workbook and it will merge the data, and say "YES" to the question "include sheet name". That will give you the CAR1 and LORRY1 entries in a new column on the resulting database.

If each sheet is identical you might find a Multi Consolidation Pivot Table will be sufficient, for more info. see: http://www.contextures.com/xlPivot08.html

    (note use of "might" )

I like multiple consolidation when it works, if you want to make your life harder you can try referencing tables in each sheet as data sources and creating a union query.

This is 'clever' and works very well when it works. I doubt it is worth it in many applications...
