linking serial number to prod descrip in a table

Good Morning Gents,

Need some help.

I have a listing of serial numbers that I need to match to a description in another table. For example:

1234 1234 adapter




Is there a formula for finding the S/N in another table and giving me the description of the part. There are in three seperate columns

One way....

In a sheet called say "lookup" put a unique table of serial numbers and descriptions

Name the Serial No column say "Serial" and the whole table say "Table1"
(These can be Dynamic Ranges if required)

Then in the example sheet in B2

ok how do i set up the table and name it so the formula reads table1. When I recreate the process I am getting a #name? for an answer. I think I set the table up wrong ....

Using the demo workbook.

Go to Formulas > Name Manager...
In the Dialogue Box that appears....Click on "Table1" to see how it's done, similarly with "Serial".

If you just use the code I offered without setting your workbook as above then you will get an error "#Name?".

You don't have to use named ranges, but it is often easier and more controlable.
