    Converting Macros to AppleScript

My company upgraded to Excel2008 which unfortunately doesn't use macros. I had a few simple ones that were just commands to sort by column A, B, or E but were time savers when dealing with customer's demands over the phone.

I understand that AppleScript now takes over this function in the 2008 version and I'd like to create AppleScripts that serve this same purpose. I've read the basic AppleScript tutorial and I've accessed the Excel Dictionary but don't see any command that looks like Sort.

How would I go about this, please? Or if this is not the right forum, can anyone recommend the correct one?

    Thanks,
    Rob

See OP's reply using in-built function, does it do what you need? http://www.officeformac.com/ms/ProductForums/Excel/7244

PS - hope this doesn't fall foul of rule about links to competitive forums?

Not at all, Julie, if they have the answer the OP needs.

    Re: Converting Macros to AppleScript

    Thanks for the tip.
Only thing unfortunate about this method is that it doesn't sort all the information. It does seem to alphabetize the column with the selected cell and also the column next to it, but not all the columns that have info. This is actually pretty dangerous because is you disassociate the information that belongs together in rows you could corrupt the entire spread sheet.
When I alphabetize column A, then the adjacent info in columns B,C,D etc should stay with the same item in Column A that they were with before the sort.
But the tip is useful for one column sorting at least.

    Re: Converting Macros to AppleScript

Hi pdgood, sorry it doesn't do what you need, multiple data item sorting is such a basic need it seems strange that this functionality is absent from 2008 when it is available in Windows Excel.
Perhaps the AutoFilter tool would at least help you to deal with the customer queries as an interim measure until you have an AppleScript.

Hope you are able to sort it out in due course
