    VLookup and categorize

Hi, my first post and I'm a bit of an Excel newbie. I've tried searching for the answer for my question but I'v efound nothing that answers it exactly.

what I'm trying to do is, within a workbook I have a sheet that contains a column of keywords, then in the second column B I have a category for each of those keywords and then the third column is a monthly search figure for each keyword. So in summary I have 500 keywords each categorised into about 6 different categories and each with a corresponding search volume.

So what I want to do is create a new sheet that will look for any occurrence of a keyword that falls into a specific category and then return that keyword and the corresponding search volume.

Can someone provide some advice as to how I can do this?

    cheers

    Re: VBLookup

Probably a pivot table would do it.

Drag the Category first to the Row area, then drag the Keyword to the Row area below the Category, then drag the Volume to the data area. (note this will sum or count the Volume for each category/keyword combination, it won't list volumes separately if there are duplicates).
Where there is a will there are many ways.
