    compiling multiple rankings

Hello, hope you can help. I get sent lists of 10 sports teams each week from 20 different people, each list ranks each team from 1-10. My job is take each of these 20 different ranked lists, and create a master list that reflects the 20 different lists. Is there a simple way to do this in excel?

I would like to have a column for each team that appears anywhere in any list to have a count based on its rank within the lists. Eg. In this example Louisville would have a master count of 2,1,1,1 = 5 reflecting them being ranked the number 1 team in 3 lists and the number 2 in the other. That was I can then take the final count, sort them in ascending order and create my master top 10 ranking list.

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks for any help!

    re: compiling multiple rankings

If you first create a list of all the possible teams that might get returned in any given week you can then conduct some pretty basic calcs.

Let's assume G2:G14 contain your 13 teams then

However, though the above does what you ask I'm not sure it does what you need...

Do you not need to create a weighting of some sort based on frequency of appearance ?
Surely a side ranked 8th 4 times supercedes a side appearing once ranked 7th ?

Thanks for the reply. You are exactly right. My original question was probably not clear.I need a system that takes into account a team only appearing in one list versus a team that has multiple appearances and as you suggest a weight given to each occurance.

At the end of the process, I need to turn in a mathmatically accurate representation of the 20 ranked lists that I receive in the form of final top 10 ranking.

    Thanks again for your help.

If you tell us the rule you want to apply we can create the function for you... we're not really best placed to determine the weighting rule itself.
