    compare list and highlight

    Dear Community,

    Good morning.

I would like to highlight everything in col C which doesn't appear in col G.

    Any suggestions would be welcomed.

    Thanks

    Hello,

use conditional formatting with a formula. Select all of column C and use this formula. Note the position (and lack of) the $ signs.

    =ISERROR(MATCH(C2,$G$2:$G$671,0))

    cheers,

    Re: compare list and highlight

Yes, I did try it, and none of the highlighted values in column C are present in column G. If they appear to be, you may want to check if the two cells are really the same, e.g. check leading and/or trailing spaces.

Which cells in particular are you referring to?

See attached. I've added a formula in column I to illustrate the result of the conditional formatting formula.

BTW: there's really no need to post over 800 rows of data. A few dozen would have sufficed to illustrate the issue.

    cheers

Hiya, Tey, thanks for your help and for responding.

In the first instance I highlighted the whole of col c....... i have just looked at the w'book you posted and it was 100 % correct. Therefore, it was I who did s'thing wrong. As a result I only highlighted the cells nec in col c and i got the same result as you/

BTW, pls dont take it the wrong way when i said "did you try it" - it wasn't meant in a negative!

Thanks alot for your help. and for advice re posting 800 rows.

    I don't.

99.9% of my suggestions are tested before I post them. If things don't work out as expected, this is either due to my not understanding the issue completely (which happens) or the suggestion not being implemented correctly (which also happens). No big deal either way. A follow up post will often clarify and in case of my fault, others will step up to help.
