Charting Dynamic ranges with blank data

    Hi Guys,

I have a range of cells (A1:A60) these cells are populated with numbers using a formula and feed a pie chart to display the data.

The data in these cells are populated using VLOOKUP formulas.

---NOT ALL CELLS ARE POPULATED ALL THE TIME--

The trouble I am having is that if only half of the cells (30 values) are populated at the time, the pie chart still shows 60 points of data and will show a key for 30 populated cells, but also allocate colours for the remaining unpopulated cells (it will just show the colour and no label or data but the colour still shows on the labels etc...

Is there a way to set the chart to only show populated cells and not account for unpopulated cells in the key/labels on the chart??

    many thanks guys!...

A pie chart with 60 wedges? It does not really make a difference if all the data points show, since it will be illegible anyway. If all 60 data points are filled, that would be like a clock face with a different color for each minute. Where's the information in such a chart? Why use a chart at all if you don't show anything useful with it?

Use any other chart than a pie chart for more than 3 data points.

    Why?

    cheers,

    Teylin,

Thanks for the quick reply and I totally agree with you! i loathe Pie charts, however, dispite me highlighting your exact points to my client, he insists on this rediculous format! (i will be adding a 'League Table' against his wishes because i know it will be better!)
