staggering benchmark lines in a graph

Dear community, good afternoon. please find attached a graph with benchmark lines. these lines are currently joined between one horizontal category axis and the next. I would like there to be a gap between the categories so that the bm lines only appear above the colums and are not joined.

    Thanks for your help

You need to plot the series as xy-scatter markers only.
The add a fixed value X-error bar, format error bar as required.

Re: staggering benchmark lines in a graph

Hi Andy - I went away to learn it! ie do it for myself and came accross a problem.

Step number one, i plotted the two lines as x y scatter
Step number two, i clicked on the first x >layout > error bars > but then could only access vertical error bars and got a big cross type thing in the middle of my chart.

If possible, would you mind letting me know where i went wrong.

I did click on your version to try to replicate it but i ruined that too!!!

    Cheers

    change both lines to xy-scatter.
delete additional x and y axis so the markers are positioned center of cloumn clusters.

select 1 series and Add error bars. By default both x and y error bars are added, the big crosses you now see.
Select the Y error bars and delete.
Select the X error bars and set the Fixed value to 0.4
Format error bars to have no cap, thicker line and required colour

    repeat for second series

When I change the chart type of the first line to xy-scatter it adds a secondary horizontal and vertial axis.

Just select one of the newly added axes and delete. Repeat for other axis.
You should see when the horizontal axis is deleted that the xy-markers reposition themselves.

Re: staggering benchmark lines in a graph

If you select the axis and right click the first item in the context menu is Delete.
Also you can just select the axis and press the delete button.

Or via the Chart Tools > Layout > Axes > Axes > Secondary Horizontal > None.

    Anyway glad you're sorted.
