    Repeat for entire column

Hi. I want to set a formula for an entire column. I tried this =0.75*D$2 in cell E2 to give me a result in column E, but it does not affect the next cell E3 and so on. Where am I going wrong? I want to avoid dragging the formula down the column if possible.

You don't want to add unnecessary formulas, only add formulas where data exists. Look at Excel's List feature
    Hope that helps.

    Most likely

    =0.75*$D2

Not sure what you mean by "I want to avoid dragging the formula down the column if possible."

That formula works for any data typed iin column d but only if I drag the formula down the entire column E using the + on the corner of the cell. How can it brefer to the entire column regardless of the cells that will be typed with data?

    Re: Repeat for entire column

    Hello,

if you want the formula to automatically be applied to a new row of data added to the table, then set up your table as an Excel List, as RoyUK already pointed out.

This does not affect already existing rows, though, and you will still need to copy the formula down the column to the last row of your table.

Maybe you want to explore the auto-fill functionality, which does that with a simple double-click, so you don't have to "drag" the formula down. The auto-fill feature is activated by double-clicking on the little black square in the lower right-hand corner of the cell with the formula

Otherwise, you can use a VBA macro to add the formula to column E for each new data value that you add on any row. If that is what you want, please let us know.

This is not a flaw of Excel, but rather a matter of understanding how Excel works.

    cheers,
